One of the things I love about working with mums and pregnant women is changing (and challenging!) their mindsets.
Here are some of the things I often hear:
"I don't think I can do it."
"I'm so weak."
"My body is broken."
"I don't feel strong enough."
"I'm not sure I'm able to do it."
This might sound crazy coming from intelligent, resourceful, capable and strong women. However, pregnancy and childbirth can be really tough and often women end up feeling a certain way although it's not necessarily an accurate reflection of reality.
I use different coaching tools to work on changing the language my clients use about themselves. And of course I also use physical exercise. For example, I might do boxing to bring out confidence, focus and a client's inner warrior, kettlebells to overcome resistance to change, or TRX to improve balance of body and mind.
This can take weeks or months and sometimes the physical progress creates a shift in the language used or vice versa:
"I will give it a try."
"I feel so much stronger."
"I can do it!"
The body and mind are infinitely connected. In order to grow in life, we need to keep challenging ourselves. Because as the saying goes: "If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you."
