Follow your heart... and your body!
Updated: Apr 28, 2020
Hello, I’m Caroline ❤️ The title of this blog could be ‘follow your heart’ but it could also be ‘follow your body’. Either way, as most of us know, it’s all connected.
I am a recently-qualified Personal Trainer who specialises in pre- and postnatal fitness. I am also a mum of two girls and have had my share of ups and downs since becoming a mother – from postnatal depression to diastasis (abdominal separation) and incontinence, plus a couple of hernias thrown in for good measure!
I’m also a career changer and entered the world of fitness quite late in life but maybe because of that, I feel that I have a lot to offer. During my last corporate role in sustainability I was constantly sick and tired, and realised that a few things were missing from my working life: moving my body, being in nature and helping other mums feel better about themselves - physically, mentally and emotionally.
I felt the urge to have a direct impact on a small scale and I’m pretty sure this drive came from having suffered from – and survived! – postnatal depression. I also felt strongly that while there are a lot of great baby classes out there, there aren’t nearly enough classes that nurture mums!
I attended my first Buggyfit class six years ago after the birth of my first daughter which helped me when I was a new mum, looking to regain my fitness and confidence while making new friends. I even said to myself at the time - I could be running these classes!
Then a year ago I trained in NLP (neuro linguistic programming). I am a big believer in the concept of a healthy mind in a healthy body and was looking for something to make me more resourceful and resilient – both as a parent and as a person.
I have been into fitness my whole life – from running, horse riding and swimming in the lakes of Sweden to discovering yoga 14 years ago. My sister has always said that I'm an exercise addict and she's absolutely right. But it wasn’t until I paired it with mental health that it clicked that it was something that I wanted and needed to do for a living.
Finally, last summer, everything fell into place when I took on Buggyfit in Chiswick. Bringing mums together to exercise outdoors in the postpartum period while improving their mental wellbeing - it was the perfect fit. Since then, I’ve been deepening my knowledge of the pre- and postpartum body. It’s easy to cause damage both during pregnancy and in the early days after birth and the more I know about the subject, the better able I am to support mums.
I've also qualified as a Boxercise instructor as I believe boxing is one of the best stress-busters out there. I will soon be offering high-intensity, low-impact outdoor Boxercise classes for mums who are at least 6 months postpartum. Combine boxing with yoga and you have the perfect balance in life - yin & yang.
I am passionate about educating and helping other mums feel better about themselves in all senses of the word. I set up Mamaste Fitness so that I can offer pre- and postnatal classes (Buggyfit) as well as 1-2-1 personal training sessions (outdoors and indoors) which are designed to be functional, fun and above all – nurturing.
